The Art of Law
Lombino Law Studio, Ltd. (“LLS”) was formed on the traditional idea of an attorney and counselor relationship to a client-- an almost sacred trust. To make that trust meaningful in the modern world, LLS was also founded with the belief that a good advisor has experience in their clients’ business issues, so as to be able to “add value” to their clients’ undertakings.
As with any law firm, traditional or not, our legal services are our product. Our motto, The Art of Law, is a reflection of the philosophy LLS believes distinguishes the strongest legal service providers from the rest. It reminds us to strive for more than good service; to add those special elements that experience, a creative mind and a sharp intellect can create.
By remembering to keep a bit of art in our work, we hope to keep our client base flowing, evolving, and prospering within an even changing legal landscape.
Experience
Like any great product, our services had to be forged in the fires of knowledge, honed by skill and experience, sharpened by competition and tempered to strength by a vast variety of challenges and circumstances.
For Charles Lombino, this knowledge came from an excellent legal education, and early years at a large blue ribbon firm learning the law of commerce, as well as the jurisprudence behind it. Skill came from years of experience, always searching for ways to bring positive results to clients, spending untold hours of personal time learning the industries of clients to gain an advantage, and challenging existing practices with new ideas when circumstances so demanded. Competition was plentiful in the courtroom, always present in the boardroom, and amplified by the desire to attract clients by “being the best.” “Experience is more than just letting the world happen to you,” he says. Having seen the picture from both the chair of a company owner himself as well as from the chair of a general counsel for large companies, Charles knows that with experience comes the ability to quickly adapt to whatever the world serves you.
Diverse Challenges Require Diverse Skills
“There is a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction with the ability to serve a diverse client base. One hour the tasks faced come from the CEO of a Fortune 500 company, while that afternoon is spent helping the new tech shop down the street with some business basics for their next meeting with VCs.”
–C. Lombino
There are several points of pride that makes LLS think it has more to offer than the average firm. In addition to broad experience in transactions, and the advantage that the principals at LLS have owned and run their own Company. LLS has many years experience in litigation, which includes jury trial experience.
Because the forces that drive business titans to litigation also force a large majority of business cases to settle, it is rather difficult to find a business and intellectual property attorney with significant trial experience. Certainly this is important if your business suddenly finds itself in the Courtroom. But it is also a big benefit to your day-to-day transactions. At LLS, it is practice and procedure to draft every transaction as if it will be judged in the Courtroom. The Courtroom, that is, the Judge and Jury, are the last stop, the ultimate test, of the validity of any transaction. If your business uses written transactions that, while sensible to an industry insider, would not tell their own story to a layman in the jury box, or even a wise judge, then you could be headed for a beating, regardless of the righteousness of your position.
Charles Lombino has also served as a business consultant to other companies, and has formed businesses in at least ten countries. He has operated and managed businesses, and he has worked in a heavily regulated environments. As a law firm, LLS brings these experiences to you.
The Rewarding Risk
We understand that, in business,
there is no reward without risk -- risk is the path to a competitive advantage, a good product and a sweet margin. And so we know we have to put more of ourselves into our work.
Being just a legal technician is not only inadequate; it is dangerous. We bring an artist’s touch to our work for you, an artist that creates with jurisprudence, sociology and psychology. LLS will never give advice that will lead to violation of the law. On the other hand, LLS will not usurp your good business judgment by insisting on an overly technical legal position, or endanger an important transaction by over-papering a deal for fear of not forcing a risk-free transaction. Legal advice often involves the avoidance of risk. Business judgment involves the intelligent risking of resources for reward. We know that we cannot recite the law to you, and be done. We hope you expect our help in applying that law to your needs for the task at hand, in giving you practical and useful advice, and in supporting your decision.
The Seal
The AngelbearLogo drafted by well-known artist John Ramirez and developed by photographer Jolie Kinga is, like our motto, a symbol for the balance of creativity and strength of experience that we strive to keep within our work. The Bear is actively pursuing Justice, signifying our belief that Justice does not exist as a natural element, but is our duty to create. This symbol of the power of a bear gilded with wings, holding both a torch and a scale of justice, is what we proudly seal our work with every time; consistently giving the best service possible to out clients. |
